So yeah...

In other news, I'm redoing the opening chapter of REAVER for the following reasons:
-The Speaker's speech is too short and repetitive.
- The speech also doesn't emphasize the fact that Nuclear War was what almost destroyed the Earth.
- I've just realized that I don't like the main character's name at all, so it's being changed to Lucas, Takua being an African name just didn't fit for a possibly American/European (never disclosed)
person.

Also, I got an Email that someone used my account to submit music and named it from one of the characters in REAVER, it hasn't shown up yet so I guess it was deleted somehow.

people seemed to like the opening of REAVER so far, so I'm continuing, I was able to shut down my writer's block for one night, so I'm gonna do it again and FINISH THE DAMN BOOK!

REAVER: Speaker

The room went silent when The Speaker stood at the podium. And the old, withered shell of a man addressed the crowd, He spoke the same words again, as he had done since the dawn of the new world.

" All who are gathered before me today, you are about to complete your training and make your place in this shattered world."

"Do you wish to put your talents toward the restoration of the human race? Or to combat those who oppress their people? Or maybe devote your life to training new pilots to succeed in the world?"

But before you leave this place you must understand why you fight, why you will never step foot onto our planet, why when you leave this city; you will become enemies."

"Over 300 years ago, Mankind was flourishing. Technology was becoming more advanced by the hour, people walked the Earth and breathed the air. But weep, for it could not last..."

"As it is now, so it was before. The people were separated. There were many who suffered, toiled on and on in order to survive, but their cries were not heard. There were those who would gain satisfaction, profit, purpose, from the misery of their fellow man. And there was war...Endless, destructive, and all consuming war."

The Speaker paused, remembering the day the very air itself burned, when all he had loved was lost. Out of all those who saw that day, only He still lived so many centuries later. Then, the ancient man spoke again.

"And thus our need for violence left Earth in perpetual poison-winter, the very nature of the human-being condemned us to fight amongst ourselves until none remain. For war continues still."

"In time the survivors of the war organized themselves into great factions, each wanting to bring their own people above others, thus the return of war."

"The discovery of Aether lead to the creation of the first Mech, and those after it, until armies were made up of people like you, born with your special power, your gift, your curse."

It then became clear that The Speaker would say no more, as the ancient man was assisted away from the platform, Takua looked from Alastair to Evelyn, hoping against hope that The Speaker was lying...

REAVER: Coming Spring 2009

The opening chapter of REAVER is an epic speech about how human nature brought Earth to its current post-apocalyptic state...

BUT I NEED TO GET THE SPEECH ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!

Or it just won't have that effect I'm going for...

Also I've sorted the two books into the following parts:

Book 1-REAVER:
REAVER: Speaker (only 1 chapter, which this post is about)
REAVER: Severance (Takua's childhood being trained for Mech piloting)
REAVER (the main story, where you are introduced to Mercenary Team-117)
REAVER: Awakening (closing 2-3 chapters of book 1, where you find out why the book is named after Olivia's Mech)

Book 2-REAVER: Uprising
REAVER: Subject (Olivia's backstory)
REAVER: Changeling (seems unrelated, like a filler-arc, but when it ends, you find it very important)
REAVER: Uprising (The Greatest war to hit the Earth since the Nuclear Apocalypse)
Ego tu Sum, Tu es Ego (The ending chapter, all in Latin)

The ones I decided already:
Takua : main character, male, age 15 at start and 17 at the end (though the prologue/ first third of book 1 deals with his childhood of being trained as a pilot), original nationality never disclosed (name comes from the Maori), average height, light brown hair, powers are advanced teleportation and can cause bolts of super-heated light (Laser for lack of a better word) to erupt from his Mech's weapon,pilots RAZIEL.

Victoire: Major Secondary character, male, though the name is primarily given to girls, It's a joke sort of but not a gay joke. Character is French, blond, average height, age 17 at start, has a sort of magnetic power that either pulls enemies towards him or him to them, Pilots ENIGMA.

R3VI3W gave me the name for this character:
Savos: Major secondary character and the leader of Mercenary Team-117, male, black hair, a bit tall, usually wears a black trenchcoat, around 18 in the beginning, Nationality most likely Slavic, as his unique power, he can temporarily summon a giant effigy of the grim reaper which will drain massive amount of energy from his target (usually removing power from the mech and sending the pilot into cardiac arrest), pilots REAPER.

And here are the ones I just found on Google:
Aleksandra: Major secondary character, female, blond hair,tall, around the same age as Savos, wears a burgundy-red trenchcoat, Bulgarian, I must admit this character is kinda flat at the moment, her usual purpose is to help character development for others, she has the power to heal damage to people (thus eliminating the need for team-117 to have a resident doctor) and mechs (and mechanic), pilots JUGGERNAUT (later upgraded and renamed DREADNOUGHT).

Olivia: Major secondary character, female, around 15, a bit short, has blue hair (dyed), she is a level 3 pilot and is all but insane, as she is either sitting in a corner or tearing her foes apart, although she is a very gentle person when not in battle, she can create waves of pure force the erupt outwards and damage everything in their path, pilots the Titan-Mech REAVER
